In this article, I will be revealing some of the best ways to use this unit, as well as giving you some ideas for countering this tricky Zerg caster.

Starcraft 2 Infestor Strategies

The Infestor unit has so many potential uses, simply because it has a permanent cloaking ability (burrow) and has perhaps the most powerful casted spells in the entire game. By taking advantage of these two things, you can really do some damage with the Infestor.

Infested Terrans

The Spawn Infested Terran ability is an excellent ability that allows the Infestor to lay eggs which are then hatch into Infested Marines. While Infested Marines move very slowly, they do deal a surprising amount of damage and only cost 25 energy. A single Infestor can as a result spawn 8 Marines in just a few seconds.

One great way to use these is to burrow a handful of Infestors and sneak them into an enemy’s expansion. From under the ground, you can spawn a bunch of Infested Terrans and use them to focus-fire down the Hatchery, Nexus, or Command Center. You can then run away before the enemy is able to retaliate, giving you a free kill on the expansion, making this one of the neatest Starcraft 2 tips.

Another effective way of using the Infested Terran ability is if you catch air-units out of place. You can air units locked-down by using Fungal Growth, and while they are rooted, spawn a few Infested Terrans to finish them off. Refresh Fungal Growth as needed.

Fungal Growth

Fungal Growth is hallmark Infestor ability, doing a sizable amount of damage to an area of effect over 4 seconds, and keeping the enemy rooted in place during that time.

One of the great ways to use this ability is against units with low HP which tend to bunch up. In particular, this works great against Terran bio-balls. It nearly kills Marines outright and rapidly drains Medivac energy.

Another great way to use this ability is to cast it on harvesting units. Once units are trapped, they are guaranteed to die; just make sure you refresh Fungal Growth by casting it a second time before the root wears off. Depending on saturation and timing, you can often catch 8-15 harvesters this way.

Neural Parasite

Neural Parasite is a great ability and allows the Infestor to temporarily take control of another unit. Since Infestors only cost 2 supply, pretty much anytime you can use this ability on a unit with 3 supply or greater, it is worth it.

One good thing to do is grab the most valuable units, like Thors, Immortals, and Siege Tanks. This usually causes the other player to turn and run. What you can do then is to manually attack the units you have controlled to safely kill them. This is a great way to take out Thors and other expensive units.

Countering the Starcraft 2 Infestor

Given the Infestor’s burrowing ability and high-speed on creep, they are actually a bit tough to kill. Their biggest weakness is a low HP total – just 90, making them easy targets for the right units.

Siege Tanks are good for focusing these down, as are any sort of air unit. Protoss players can also use Feedback (High Templar ability) on each one, or even opt for Phoenix if your micro is really good. Another option is to simply go for units which cannot be easily mind-controlled, such as a Zealot and Sentry-heavy build.

For other Zerg players, Infestors are easily countered by again choosing units that are resistant to their effects, such as Roaches. Getting your Roaches hit with Fungal Growth is not a big deal, neither is getting mind-controlled.
