Starcraft 2 Terran Tips
Below, you are going to get my top 3 Starcraft 2 Terran tips which you can use to gain a significant edge over your opponent in Starcraft 2. These Terran secrets are often used by the pros but almost never see the light of day on ladder. By taking advantage of the Starcraft 2 tips below you will gain a serious advantage over your opponent.
Starcraft 2 Terran Tips
Before I reveal my top 3 SC2 Terran tips, remember that this article is just a part of the whole Starcraft 2 Terran guide. If you have problems playing Terran, make sure to read through the whole guide! With that out of the way, lets get started!
SC2 Terran Tips – #1: An Orbital Command Inside Your Base Is Better Than No Expansion At All!
Terran are the only Starcraft 2 race which can “expand” (and increase their mineral output) inside their own base. This is much different than the Zerg building an auxiliary Hatchery (which is more akin to building extra Gateways or Barracks) as building a Command Center (preferably Orbital Command) inside your main base can drastically increase your mineral intake.
The basic way to use this strategy is when you want to expand but are not yet sure that it is safe (such as if your opponent is building up a lot of units early in the game). You can wall off your main, and then build a Command Center inside your walled-off base. You can then convert it into an Orbital Command and start training SCVs out of it and have them mine at your main base. This really helps you get saturated fast at your main.
When it is safe, you can lift over your Orbital Command and set it down at your natural expansion, and then move all those extra SCVs down to your natural, giving you a practically instant expansion.
Starcraft 2 Terran Tips – #2. Use The Macro CC Build
We can take the first SC2 Terran tip in this article and take it to the extreme, as this is not the only way you can use this great Starcraft 2 Terran tip. One sneaky but extremely effective strategy is to build several Orbital Commands (up to 3 extra when you have the resources) inside your base, and never lift them off.
These Orbital Commands then can be used to push your SCV count to a healthy 70 harvesters in a matter of a few minutes, and then they can drop MULEs all over the map. This frees up supply from SCVs so you can get more units.
This also works out great for “sneaking” expansions. What you do is take your Third expansion, set up a Planetary Fortress, then use all 5 of your Orbital Commands to drop MULEs. If you save up 150+ energy at your 3 “macro” CCs, this can allow you to drop tons of MULEs and mine minerals very quickly. You can mine out a brand new base in a matter of a few minutes – often before the opponent knows you are set up!
While this article is a good starting point, if you are serious about getting better at Starcraft 2, we recommend HotKeyIt, the only guide created by pros. You can get it by clicking here.Remember that every MULE harvests about 270 minerals, so as soon as you drop 2 MULEs with a macro Orbital Command, you make your money back (just 3 minutes after the Orbital is complete).
While it is risky to pull off, if your opponent doesn’t finish you within a few minutes of your macro CCs going up, you are practically guaranteed to win!
Starcraft 2 Terran Tips – #3. Use Reapers to Scout
You can get even more out of your Orbital Commands by using Reapers instead of scans to scout. Unless it is very late in the game and the opponent has a lot of automated defense up, Reapers are generally more effective than scans for scouting and you can usually see most of the opponent’s main.
Just build a Reaper, run it around the outskirts of the map, and jump up into the main from a side entrance. Do not worry about trying to pick off any harvesters until you get a full scout off. Just avoid the enemy’s units the best you can.
Not only do you usually get to scout more space on a Reaper, but Reapers also only cost 50 minerals and 50 gas, whereas each scanner sweep costs ~270 minerals (which is about what a MULE harvests over 90 seconds).
As an added bonus, Reapers are an annoyance that have to be taken care of by the opponent, which just may be enough to slow them down a few seconds to deal with.
Starcraft 2 Terran Tips Conclusion
As you can see, these Starcraft 2 Terran tips all revolve around maximizing the effectiveness of your MULEs. This is one unit that gives Terran players a huge advantage over other races (as there really is nothing like it in game), so you might as well take advantage of this fact to the fullest!
