Starcraft 2 Zerg Strategies
In this article, I will be revealing the general Starcraft 2 Zerg strategies you can use to win Starcraft 2 games. You will also find links to articles for specific race-vs-race match-ups as your unit composition greatly depends on the race you are playing against.
Starcraft 2 Zerg Strategies – Overview
As mentioned throughout this Starcraft 2 Zerg guide, the general rule of thumb when it comes to playing Zerg is to always focus on the macro side of things. You only have a few real responsibilities as a Zerg player:
- Constantly spread the creep
- Constantly inject larva at each expansion
- Stay one expansion ahead of your opponent
- Do not get surprised with an attack before late-game
Many Zerg players use that exact same Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy to dominate their opponents. You just want to take over the map, sit back, and not let the opponent take you out before you get your macro-machine rolling.
The Starcraft 2 Zerg strategies for getting the macro machine rolling will depend of course on what race you are playing against. For example, a few Banelings and really good creep spread forces the Terran player to tech up to tanks, whereas defending against an aggressive Protoss player will call for a much heavier investment such as getting Spine Crawlers.
Of course, there are exceptions to the rule; there are a few very aggressive Zerg players out there who do very well by pressuring the opponent, though these are far and few between. Most players like to sit back and macro, and this Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy guide will focus on that aspect of the Zerg.

Given the complexity of each race match-up, I have written completely separate articles for each match-up. In these articles, you will find tips on beating common unit combinations as well as discussing methods that you can use to defend yourself from attacks while you macro up.
